Fortress Merge Guides
From the first Fight button to a clean wave-10 castle.
This hub is the map of every Fortress Merge tutorial on the wiki. If you just installed the free Steam, Xbox, or PlayStation build — or you are coming back from the mobile campaign — start with Getting Started and do not skip the merge and placement pages. The game looks like a cozy auto-battler. It is actually a tile puzzle with a timer: every empty square you waste is a unit you never spawned.
The guides, in play order
- Getting Started — shop, Fight, castle HP, trees, and the first ten waves.
- When to merge — walls and mines always; barracks and mage towers only when you need space.
- Placement — barricades on the lane, camps in front, turrets mid, mages and mines in the back.
- Gold and upgrades — reroll costs, skill draft, and what to sell before a boss.
- Skill priority — which draft card to take when the XP bar pops.
- How to beat bosses — wave 10 plans and the 13-wave maps with a mid-boss.
Read them in that order on a new account. After that, jump by pain: leaking lane → placement, broke on rerolls → gold, castle exploded on the last wave → bosses.
What these guides assume
Fortress Merge is single-player. You are not racing a lobby. You can pause, sell, and retry a level from wave 1 if the castle dies. Buildings that burn during a wave come back for the next shop phase, so a sacrificial wall is a tool, not a permanent loss. The castle is the only building you cannot sell or merge; you can drag it off the lane.
Steam lists three heroes for the PC and console build. Mobile has a larger roster (Jeanne, Esmeralda, Undertaker, and seasonal names). Hero choice still follows the same rule: pick one, fund the gear, stop splitting blueprints. Details live under heroes and gear.
How to use the rest of the wiki from here
After a guide tells you what to place, the building tier list tells you which camp is worth the tile. The units list covers knights, horsemen, archers, and mages. Controls maps mouse, touch, and controller. Challenge modes explains Grand Battle, Boss Fight, and Hero Battle once campaign feels easy.
Do not farm fake codes. The real currency pages are free rewards and the gold guide above.

If a video is easier than text, each child guide embeds one real walkthrough in the middle of the article. We do not stack three videos on one URL. If two creators covered the same tip, we kept the clearer one and wrote the rest as text so you can scan on a phone between waves.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Which guide should I read first?
Getting Started, then When to Merge, then Placement. Boss and gold pages wait until you can clear a normal ten-wave map.
Are these guides for mobile or for Steam?
Both. Core merge and placement rules match. Hero count and some shop buttons differ; those notes are flagged in each article.
Can I skip merging and just spam camps?
Early on, yes for unit buildings. Walls and mines should still merge. The merge guide explains the split.
